11circumpolar
on site 11: architecture in the circumpolar regions
Our most significant issue, the state of the extreme north and south in 2004. Weather, climate, environment, building: prescient, optimistic, concerned.
Guest editor for this issue was Tracey McTavish, who got a Canada Council travel grant to research the Canadian circumpolar region. The original publication was in black and white, however for the online version we were able to use the original contributor’s files to change the images to colour.
The original issue ran into extreme printing problems: the (new to us) press had a new and not very capable pre-press technician, the actual physical press burst into flames as the issue was being printed, the delivered print copies had missing text all through it which had to be inserted manually on every copy. The guest editor was not amused, the understatement of all times, after all her hard work.
However, however, it appears here as a marvellous issue of On Site review, and we are very proud of it.
