forensics of nuclear landscape
Andrey Chernykh, a landscape architect and urbanist based in Toronto, Canada, strives to strengthen connections between people and landscapes they inhabit, through design thinking and the nurturing of ecological systems that support us all.
His article in On Site review 35: the material culture of architecture outlines a field trip to the Polygon, or the Semipalatinsk Nuclear Test Site in north-east Kazakhstan. This trip was part of his 2017 University of Toronto MLA thesis that proposed four interventions on the site.
